It's roads like this that were the reason for me coming to Scotland for a week's riding holiday in the first place! Cambletown wasn't a great deal, but getting there and getting back were the reason for my trip! It rained heavily but I still enjoyed myself. A few tricky road conditions with stones and mud on the riding line. I'd recommend the route!

Nothing too technical but, lovely scenery. Certain sections along with the salty sea air had me reminiscing about California's Highway 1.

I really like this road and part of Scotland - I often get the Calmac hopscotch from Ardrossan on to Arran then on to Kintyre via Claonaig then head home via Inverary either going past Loch Awe or the rest & be thankfull. The road is generally quiet with some traffic - not that many tourists - surface is good in most places with few police to speak of. Although residents do complain and Ive been pulled over in Tarbert for a oad tax check by traffic police for doing nothing more than riding a bike. Great sceneray, good road - whats not to like?

I think this one is a great ride. Scotland in general and this road in particular introduced me to the concept of a blind summit - of which this road has plenty. Scenery is mostly at the spectacular end of the range and I saw no cameras/police (no tickets arrived yet!). Have to agree with Yeti that the B8001/B842 is a much more challenging road so Id say the B8001/B842 for an out-and-out blast but the B83 for a more gentle bimble.

Great run with nice clear open views across to the Isle of Gigha. Some narrow stretches of road lined with hedges with blind bends that you need to be careful with, but when the road opens out you have clear vision of whats ahead with fields on both sides and can enjoy the scenery without anticipating whats around every corner. Not much in Campbeltown to see or do, but you can find a cafe before heading back. Watch out for tractors and caravans.

I really like this road. But you really have to be aware of some crazy drivers who know the road like the back of there hands i have had a few near misses on this road but it is gorgeous and you cant beat stopping at the beach on a great sunny day. This area is also hotter than most of scotland in the summer due to some weather stream of some sort, they can even grow palm trees, which is odd!!

Genuine comments by Pegsdown, but the answer is to go to Cambletown via the B8001 & B842. An 8ft wide undulating, sometime twisty strip of tarmac with no coppers and little traffic. The only problem being that you always seem to meet the oncoming tourists on a blind bend. Carradale worth a visit.

Really nice drag strip style run down Kintyre. There are also some great corners on this route, the only downside being that there is sometimes a speedtrap waiting around a blind corner/brow.
